The Beginning

I would say that last week was the first week of really being in business for myself.  It is so different then organizing and arranging someone else’s plans.  I love it.  Choosing themes, color schemes, paper lanterns vs naked string lights, cattails vs bulk wheat fronds.  It is exciting and fun.  A little daunting, but becoming more and more comfortable as I venture further and further into the realm of possibilities.  I can close my eyes and envision different looks, open them jot them down, and move on to the next one, all the while watching the notebook fill with fantastic ides one after another.

My eyes have become much more attuned in the past few weeks to noticing everyday scenery that can be manipulated, shifted, and transplanted.  Looking for design ideas in magazines, on television, even in shop windows.  Just like building a set in theater it is a suspension of disbelief.  You can re-create a mood or a feeling with just a shift of light, a splash of color, and a note of music.

Question:  I’m possibly doing an outdoor family celebration in July.  The theme is outdoorsy, very natural, not too floral.  Oh and it also incorporates a water/fishing/river theme.  I have a preference, but I like opinions.  What do you think?

Cattails vs. Wheat

I love the wheat! Gorgeous with wild flowers for a country chic look. Which did you choose?
